Community in Motion
The project addresses the topic of green mobility, social, and environmental sustainability. The general aim of the project is to influence changes in the habits of inhabitants of the conurbation, in line with the EPK – GO! Europe and GO! Green strategy. Residents will use bicycles and walk more for short distances due to exceptional artistic interventions in the space. International artists (based on a worldwide public call) will create asphalt paintings on the main road artery connecting Nova Gorica and Gorizia (from Bevk Square to Travniki) on the theme of green mobility. The graphics of the paintings will be digitized and applied to 25 GO2GO bicycles and gadgets, which will expand and prolong the effect of the paintings. With the opening event on a closed street at the border between the two cities, we will create a paradise for green mobility and directly bring the theme and promotion of green mobility to the people in a fun, inclusive, and educational way.
With it, we will achieve physical and highly visible changes in the cross-border infrastructure of both Gorizia and connect the cities in terms of content and operation. The project will also have a significant impact on municipal administrations, which have already and will continue to closely and operationally cooperate in terms of content as well as administrative cooperation because of this project.
The innovation of the project is demonstrated in the pioneering use of road paintings to promote green mobility in our area. In the project, we have combined art and infrastructure to achieve the best results for promoting sustainable mobility, addressing directly, unexpectedly, in content, and aesthetically.
Our direct impact in the project will be the opening of the ArtCycle path, which will take place in a one- day paradise for green mobility – on our border, at the intersection of Erjavčeva Street and Via San Gabriele. There, we will directly address and inspire the inhabitants of both Gorizia with interesting, unconventional content that will indirectly and directly promote sustainable mobility in general and cross-border mobility between both Gorizia. After the opening of the ArtCycle path, mobility from one city to another will be more enjoyable, stimulating, and, above all, environmentally friendly. We will influence the perception of connectivity in the cross-border area and advocate for sustainable urban mobility. We will strengthen cooperation between the two municipalities so that they will begin to think and operate more experienced and with a more open mind, even on smaller projects, and carry out as many of them as possible across the border. Our approach is fully and equally cross-border, as both partners are involved in almost equal implementation of activities on both sides of the border, each carrying out activities and promotions closest to their professional field.
